So close to the sea you forget to count the days <3 SB2K9

“A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.”

I must first point out that I am listening to “No Stress” while writing this.

The story of SB2K9 starts off at 4:00am on Saturday the 4th of April.

Day 1:

Unfortunately, my spring break trip to Tenerife (Canary Islands) involved a flight into the north airport instead of the south, and the metro does not open until 6:00am… how do they run businesses here? The cabs prosper. Perry and I took a cab to Madrid Barajas Airport and eventually boarded our plane headed to Tenerife North Airport.  After getting there, we took one bus to the center of town. After getting THERE we took ANOTHER bus to the south.. and then walked to our hotel. Luckily we quickly checked in and jumped into our bathing suits before meeting up with the group that was already headed for lunch.

After a lunch of kebabs (IF you can even call them that..) we went to the pool to hang, which was our specialty. The glorious weather of our trip is incomparable, and I loved every second of that “African sun.” As you’ve probably already guessed.. we eventually made it back to our rooms — my roommie was SPatt, and that definitely was a blast — and took naps. I now prepare you for the ultimate climax of our group in Madrid, the best night we’ve had so far:

After getting ready, we went out to dinner right next to the ocean, and although the food took a very long time to come, it was delicious. At this point Jordan and Perry (Jerry) were absolutely BLASTED and did and said some very strange things during dinner, including putting spoons on their noses.

During dinner, someone across the table kicked someone else, and it gave me an idea.. what if someone at one end of the table pretended to kick and someone way down the table pretended to have been kicked? This gave me such a hard laughing fit, although it doesnt seem funny now… it took me 5 minutes to spit the idea out, and I barely even did.

The first of many street sellers wandered by with trinkets… so Juan and I bought blue and red flashy glasses (as I promised myself I would do at some point while abroad). This was a stellar decision and a catalyst for the craziness of the first night.

After dinner we popped bottles. In Lauren and Liseys room and we all opened our various types of Bacardi… which meant everyone had to try on Lisey’s beach hat, everyone had to do the YMCA, and everyone had to run out into the street with enthusiasm for the rest of the fiesta.

I love us.

I love us.

On the way Mara Jordan Perry and I tried to do a jumping picture and I pushed them down in order to boost myself… very nice! …Then Anthony’s happened. Believe it or not… for 10 euro each we got a RIDICULOUS amount of alcohol: 2 drinks each, 3 middle drinks, and our own bottle? Ill take it. We started doing hair cuts and then Lauren bought umbrella hats ["wait guys... you bought umbrella hats?" "no Lauren, YOU bought umbrella hats.."

Sadly, Juan got something spilled on his white pants [called it], BUT right after the dancing started. We began on the floor, however Lisey sparked an “off the floor” trend by climbing onto a table. “Please dont dance on the table, it is unsteady.. if you want, come dance on the bar.” So she did.

When No Stress played.. Lisey ran right outside the bar to where people were calmly having dinner, and Lauren and I followed. We weaved in and out and around Lisey as her favorite song blasted, which inevitably became the theme song of our trip. After Anthony’s, we went to a second bar, got more drinks, and continued dancing as we always do, breaking it down for the rest of the night. At some point the DJ said, “We have a thief in the house… and shes wearing blue glasses…” But since Ann knew she wasnt WEARING BLUE, she thought she was getting away with it (and she did!).

"I love how I'm called the clepto, when it's REALLY Meg!"

At the end of the night… we all went back to the Hesperia Troya Hotel and up to our rooms. We fell asleep next to Playa de Las Americas, and awaited another day and night of SB2K9.
